We partnered with Moody Gardens, the Endangered Wolf Center, and numerous conservation and community organizations, hosted the Howl-O-Ween Ghost Wolf Expo on Galveston Island.
This educational event celebrated the island's unique ghost wolves and highlighted their importance to biodiversity conservation and Red wolf recovery. The event featured an interactive conservation village at Moody Gardens, bringing together scientists, environmental organizations, Indigenous representatives, and government agencies for hands-on activities, educational displays, and community engagement. Special presentations from the Endangered Wolf Center highlighted how genetic discoveries from Gulf Coast ghost wolves could contribute to restoring lost genetic diversity in endangered red wolves.
Participating organizations included Turtle Island Restoration Network, Artist Boat, Armand Bayou Nature Center, Galveston Bay Foundation, the Karankawa Peoples of the Gulf Coast, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Texas Department of Transportation, among others.
The celebration continued at Galveston Island Brewing with the return of the popular Gulf Ghost Red Lager, a ghost wolf costume contest, and opportunities for the community to learn more about local conservation efforts.
The expo emphasized the connection between scientific discovery, wildlife conservation, habitat protection, and community stewardship, reinforcing the importance of protecting Galveston's ghost wolves and the coastal ecosystems they inhabit.
