chasing the tide: One couple's 370-mile trek across the barrier islands of texas

A documentary series that highlights the beauty and ecological complexities of the Texas Gulf Coast. The trek began in October 2023 on the Louisiana/Texas border when Chrissy and Jay Kleberg (and their team of cinematographers) walked the entire length of Texas’ seven barrier islands. Along the way, they spoke with community members, scientists, and natural resource managers about this diverse and complex ecosystem.

The team walked 370 miles down the coast to the mouth of the Rio Grande River in 21 days. They covered about 20 miles a day, crossed 15 passes, and were the first to walk every inch along the Texas coastline. Their journey will be aired as a six-part documentary series set to premiere Fall 2024 in partnership with Austin PBS. The series will highlight stories unique to Texas but not bound by its borders. Such conversations include High Island’s migratory song birds, Galveston Island’s Ghost Wolves, Padre Island’s Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, the Karankawa Kadla, and rapidly changing environmental factors.

Are you in the Corpus Christi area on June 17th? They will be hosting a community screening event but make sure you RSVP first!
